This is a funny excerpt from Danie’s letter last week.  The rest was addressed to just me and would not be of interest to anyone else:

For the person who put in my mission packet that a coat is optional, they are crazy!!!!!!  It is so not optional!!! The other day I accidentally left my coat at a member's house and borrowed a coat from my companion for three days or so until we had time to stop by and retreive mine.  Well, now I have a cold and I froze for three days.  So not only is a coat necessary, but a really good one, like the one you bought for me is very very necessary. Tell everyone who recieves a mission call to Argentina :)  Also, I have a funny story for you.

It all started one overcast day here in Bell Ville.  My companion woke up with a migrane and we spent the morning trying to beat the symptoms.  Well luckily after many prayers and a half hour a tipsy companion (she took some very very strong medicine) we were off to the area to work :) We taught a lesson to a lady who claims to be catholic catholic, but has the question why are there so many churches on the earth today.  Haha :D it went pretty well I must say :)  After lunch with a member almost exactly like grandpa andrus and his family, we went to another lesson.  The member took us in his car.  The funny thing is he is super strict like grandpa andrus, but only in certain areas.  For example, we rode in white plastic lawn chairs in the back of his car and he purposely drove like a maniac to see if could tip us over hahaha :D  Can you imagine Grandpa Andrus doing that?  Me neither.  It was definitely very unexpected behavior from this particular member haha :D  Well the rest of the afternoon we continued teaching etc etc. but my companion and I were having an afternoon of working out our differences.  I was so so frustrated and as we mounted our bikes once again to travel to another house we passed a flower vendor.  I stopped without even thinking and asked to buy a flower.  I wanted to do something nice for my companion to regain the spirit. Well after I purchased the flower, I looked up and realized I had no idea where my companion was.  I hoped that maybe she was just around the corner but when I turned the corner she wasnt there.  At this point I was frustrated and in a panic and I just started sobbing (side note, the flower vendor sells flowers in front of the cemetary, that is where I purchased the flower for my comp)  I was riding along, (flower meant for dead person and all) when my skirt got caught in the spokes of my bike.  I had to dismount, untangle myself and all.  I decided to walk to the chapel that was pretty near by, all the while praying my companion would think to do the same.  I really must have been quite the site sobbing, walking with my bike, and my dead person flower haha :D At one point one lady asked if she could help me and when I responded in my terrible spanish (I don´t think well in spanish when I am crying turns out) the poor thing didn´t know what to do so she just wished me the best and continued on.  Well, after who knows how long I arrived at the chapel and just waited.  I had our cell phone but it doesn´t work to call people, only text, and no one responded when I texted them.  Finally I looked up and saw a bicicle wheel turn the corner.  It was my companion!  Never have I been so happy to see her in my life!  It was definitely quite an adventure I must say, but in the end the Lord took care of us :)  That is my funny story :)

my mission is an adventure but I love it just the same :)  Sorry I can´t say more but time is short
Love always, Me :) ps...

So this email from Danie should have been posted just before the last one.  Sorry they are out of order.  I just feel proud to be able to figure out how to post them at all.  She answered some questions for her Dad, and the Hermana Page she mentions is a companion she started in the MTC with, and enjoys working with very much.
Danie's letter:

Things are going pretty well.  To answer your questions :)  Only the really wealthy people drive cars here. Most people use motos (scooters) Bikes or their legs :)  The homes here are like huts made of brick and cement.  We usually clap outside peoples gates rather than knock on doors here because everyone has gates here and they all lock them.  I am not sure exactly how many people are in the ward.  About 100 regularly attend each week but we have a lot of less actives and many recent converts that stopped going after their baptism.  Many of the moms work here, mostly because to find a complete family is very irregular here.  It is expensive to get married so people usually dont make the effort to do so and it is pretty common for people to have kids at age 16, 17, 18 and sometimes younger. Afterward the parents separate and either the mom or dad is left to do everything on their own. It´s so sad.  It makes me very motivated to share the gospel and the importance of families.

The work is my favorite thing. I love my investigators so so much.  I love helping them succeed and I am doing my very best to make suggestions when my companion and I both have the spirit so we can improve our teaching.  I have so many ideas that really worked from my other mission and I am just now gaining the ability to communicate them in Spanish. Transfers are this Saturday.  I am anticipating another transfer in the area with my current companion because I need to finish "training"  but we will see what the Lord has in store :)  Last week I got to be companions with Hermana Page for a few days and it was so wonderful :)  We are also teaching this one sweet girl in English right now because she really wants an opportunity to practice her English and learn about the gospel.  I can´t remember if I mentioned her or not, but she truly is wonderful.  I am convinced we were friends in our past life :) I wouldn´t trade my mission for the world. Now is a time of concentrated learning so yes it is hard and it should be, but I can´t tell you how comforting it is to have the ability to pray each night and pour out my heart to our Father in Heaven.  With time I will be the missionary my investigators need.  A missionary with humility and confidence, charity, trust and much much more :)

Some funny things I saw this week.  A man driving in his car with his hand on the roof holding a long piece of wood for some sort of project haha :D so illegal in the states, so commical and normal here :)  I also so the biggest man in the world, riding the worlds smallest bike hahaha :D  Little things like this help me smile when I feel like I have met my match.  There is always one more smile to offer :) always :)

The other day one of our investigators confessed that the only reason he wanted to meet with us is because he hoped to marry me one day....that was super awkward haha :D  I am sad for him though, because he has no idea what he is missing. He doesn't want to meet anymore because I told him I am not interested in marriage right now.  I tried to say that anyway.  It probably came across even more bluntly than that because in spanish I am very blunt. haha :D

A little more about argentina.  You have to go to a different store for every little thing here.  Haha :D  they haven't figured out how to sell many things in one place.  It is probably different in the city. Who knows. The best chocolate is bon o bon :) THey have really wierd cars here :) um... I cant think of anything else at the moment but I will try to think of more next week :)

To leave on a happy note.  My spanish is really coming along.  Really I have been so blessed with the ability to speak.  It is far from perfect but time and time again people keep telling me how advanced I am for the amount of time i have been here, and it really shows when I am around other gringos.  I am so grateful for this  :)  I have many attributes to obtain, but the Lord not only is showing me my weaknesses, but giving me strengths as well :)

Sorry for such a scatter brained email.   Send everyone my love.

Love always,
Danie

This is Danie's most recent letter to us.  I give up on making corrections.  I will post another one from a week ago when I figure out which one it is I missed.  We are so glad she is happy in doing the Lord's work

Hey Family :)

You should expect a visit from a very nice elder in the next little while...  His name is Elder Murdoch.  Actually he probably won´t be Elder by the time he stops by.  I think his name is Matthew?  I don´t know.  Anyway, he is one of the elders I worked with directly in my area and he has finished his mission.  He offered to bring a little something by the house since he lives sort of close by and his cousin lives even closer :) (do we know an eric hansen? That´s his cousin)  So I took him up on the offer and sent him with a little something.  It was kind of last minute so I am sorry it is not much but I hope you enjoy :)  Also, if he remembers, he has some photos of me as well.  Don´t be alarmed haha :D the only reason for this is because our area is kind of unique in Bell Ville so we worked really closely with our zone leaders and he was the only one who ever remembered to bring his camera.  I think missionaires who are close to going home remember this better than those of us who are a little bit newer..
Okay, on to other things.  I am finding a new confidence in myself right now.  Wow! My companion is awesome!!!  She truly loves each and every one of our investigators. She will do anything to ensure that they are taken care of.  I love this!  She is also so bold!  She has no problem sharing the gospel and while I don´t either, I am definitely learning how to be more bold and I love it :)
Things are rarely easy here, but to feel so close to our Father in Heaven is so worth it.  I literally cannot do this without him.  The best part is, even though it is so hard, I can still be happy which really makes it easy.  Sorry I cannot explain it very well, but I am so grateful for my relationship with our Father in Heaven.
Okay now for something slightly less spiritual...I got to sing in a choir this week!!!!  Turns out there is an Argentine version of Ms. Frederick haha :D  This choir practices in our capilla every Saturday and we happened to be there during their practice this week :)  They are working on a song in English right now and asked if I would listen and help them pronounce the words correctly.  After they finished and I gave them a few suggestions, the Elders told them I wanted to sing with them. (I started singing here long before I could speak haha :D)  I didn´t say this, of course, and I was super embarrassed, but they were so excited so I decided to join in and sing their english song with them :)  It was so fun!!!!!! The song they are working on is very gospely, como southern baptist gospel choir.  Yeah I am pretty sure Elder Murdoch has pictures of this so hopefully he will remember to show them to you :)  I felt right at home with the choir and we are hoping that maybe I can sing this song with them for a performance in september.  We of course have to clear everything with president, but this could really be a great missionary opportunity.  We shall see :)
Que mas?  Update on the spanish, it is still coming along well.  I have truly wittnessed a miracle here on my mission because after only one transfer I speak fine and understand pretty well too (as in, i can carry on a conversation no problem, i just have to ask for the meaning of some words) :)  Of course I am far from perfect and I have so much to learn, but the spirit really has helped me communicate with the people here.  It´s amazing!  I love spanish!!!!  I have done my best to read as much as I can from the book of mormon in spanish and I have no doubt that this has helped my ability to speak immensly.  :)  Wow, so cool.  How on earth did I get to be bilingual?  I am really excited for the day when I speak well enough that my accent is not a distraction to the spirit.  I imagine it is difficult for our investigators right now to hear the spirit when they are working on understanding me, but I am seeing improvements so I just have to keep working and creating opportunities to practice and help others.  I am hoping to start up an english class pretty soon to invite more people to have the opportunity to hear about the gospel.
I know you don´t know these people but I want to share a little about the people I am teaching.  There is one young man named Orlando that we have been talking with for the past little while and wow, he is fantastic!!  He is 21 years old like me which is kind of wierd to think about but he is super great :)   His heart really is in the right place and he is so good at serving others.  It is so neat :)  We also just found this sweet family the other night and when we started talking about the restoration the dad was sucked right in to the conversation.  You could see the wheels turning in his head and, wow, I don´t know how to describe it but it was neat to have the spirit there :)  We also ran into a lady the other day and as we began sharing our message she started to cry.  I think she was a little embarrassed because she insisted that she needed to go after she began crying.  We asked if we could visit her another time and she told us no, but gladly accepted a folleto on the plan of salvation.  She was looking for help, but she didn´t realize that we had been put in her path for that very reason.  I hope that she will be able to find what she needs soon :) maybe not with us, but possibly another set of missionaries, she may see that the gospel of Jesus Christ really can bless her life. There really is a monton de cosas decir, but I don´t have time to share them all.  To answer the spanish question, I think in Spanish quite a lot actually. I owe that to praying in Spanish.  Even though I didn´t get the chance to speak that much spanish in St. George I was still praying in Spanish and since many of my thoughts are directed toward the man upstairs, during the day, they were in spanish as well and my mind got used to thinking in spanish.  There are still some things that I have to translate first, but I can actually see the difference between my spanish mind and my english mind and there are a few things I just can´t explain in english anymore :)  I am most definitely content with this because I have barely over a year left to share this important message.  I need all of the language help I can get :)
I am so sorry to hear about Mike.  That kind of loss never is easy, and really there aren´t words to fix it or make it better.  The spirit is the one thing that can truly comfort ones heart.  I hope and pray the family can feel the power of the holy ghost ahora in this time of need.  He was a good man and the really neat thing is, we know that he still IS a really great man. He has just been called to another place Alma 22:4  There is a missionary here who just finished his mission this last week.  I found out a little while ago that his dad died while he was on his mission.  Yet he stayed and continued to serve. Wow, so amazing.  I wish you could hear his testimony of the plan of salvation. It is simply beautiful.
This work is amazing.  I love sharing the gospel with others.  Even when my mission with a name tag ends I will always work to give everyone I know the opportunity to hear the gospel and know of the hope and happiness that it brings. :)
I don´t mean to sound preachy, I just know it is true :)
Oh my goodness I have taken an eternity, for now I have to go, but I will write again next week :) If there is anyway I can get recipes for the glaze for orange rolls or a glaze in general that would be wonderful. Pancakes too.  I am hoping to share them with our ward mission leader here.  He is in the cake buisiness :)  Oh, last update, we got our transfer calls and I am here in Bell Ville for another six weeks with my same companion :)  We are going to have a great transfer!!!!!!!  I love you all!  Until Next week :) cuidese :)
Con Amor,

Hermana Fairbanks/Danie
